Network Control Officer Job Description

The Network Control Officer plays a pivotal role in the smooth operation of the Regional Linx Country Regional Network (CRN), responsible for managing daily rail traffic and facilitating network access for maintenance activities on a 24/7 basis.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Operate Network Control equipment to authorise movements and prepare train authorities for train and track work requirements.
  • Stay appraised of train locations and progress, accurately recording details in the Train Control Systems.
  • Respond to emergencies and irregularities, providing timely reports as prescribed by the train control system.
  • Comply with safe working requirements, codes of practice, procedures, and processes.
  • Plan train running and track work to avoid conflicts.
  • Issue instructions to rail crews and staff at line locations, ensuring events are correctly performed and reported in the Train Control Systems.
  • Ensure compliance with train notices concerning signalling, safe working equipment, and rolling stock.
  • Process Ad-Hoc Train Paths from Operators received within the shift span.
  • Assist track staff in reaching work destinations for track work and testing of network control equipment.
  • Provide a comprehensive briefing to relieving Network Controllers at the end of each shift, including verbal instructions to trains.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • CERT IV in Rail Operations or ability to attain.
  • Current Driving License.
  • Qualified in safeworking rules and procedures or ability to attain.
  • Experience in train control management (Desirable).
  • Knowledge of the NSW National Rail Safety Law 2012 and System Safety Plans.
  • Proven ability to plan, prioritise, and coordinate work activities in a dynamic operational environment.
