Role Overview

The State of Queensland is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Assistant Director of Midwifery. This position is a critical component of our organization's commitment to delivering high-quality midwifery care across the state.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic management of midwifery practices within a designated portfolio or project
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to evaluate and continuously improve systems that support midwifery and maternity healthcare teams
  • Integrate and evaluate models of care to achieve cost-effective services
  • Operationalize corporate and clinical governance frameworks
  • Contribute to policy development to ensure best practice outcomes
  • Provide high-level advice in midwifery practice, education, and research
  • Foster professional development, mentorship, and credentialing of midwives
  • Drive the establishment of models of excellence in midwifery across the public health system

Requirements

  • Proven experience in quality and safety, midwifery governance, health management, policy development, and/or professional education and training
  • Ability to gather and synthesize insights from clinical and professional stakeholders
  • Skilled in multitasking and prioritizing complex issues within a highly visible and politically sensitive environment
  • Ability to report to the Director of Midwifery and departmental leaders on midwifery and maternity professional matters
  • Develop high-level reports, briefs, and strategic responses as needed
