Senior Electrical Inspector Role

This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the safety of the community by conducting workplace inspections, gathering evidence, and enforcing health and safety laws.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough inspections of workplaces and take enforcement action when health and safety laws are breached.
  • Gather and analyze evidence, prepare prosecution reports, and make recommendations about prosecutions and present evidence in court as required.
  • Coordinate and/or undertake investigations of fatalities, traumatic accidents, and serious accidents, ensuring a safe working environment for all.
  • Provide expert advice and information to management, government investigators, and families of seriously injured or deceased persons, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Undertake complex and sensitive investigations and high-level enforcement activity in line with Directorate programs and policies and the Directorate's Operational Plan.
  • Inspect electrical installations, including regional and remote locations, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Prepare documentation required to enforce electrical, technical, and safety legislation, prepare investigation and prosecution reports, and present evidence in courts, to disciplinary bodies, and to the Electrical Licensing Board.
  • Conduct major audits of network operators' consumer installation inspection systems, network operators' supply systems, and work practices, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Respond to requests for complex regulatory and technical information and prepare and deliver presentations and training in respect of electrical safety legislation and relevant standards.
  • Initiate and respond to correspondence and prepare documentation required for enforcing electrical safety legislation, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Liaise with employers, employees, unions, and industry organizations to develop and maintain effective working relationships and secure commitment to Directorate objectives and the team's operational objectives and enhance confidence in the Public Service.
  • Mentor, coach, and train Inspectors (Electricity), promoting professional growth and development.
  • Review and assess electrical safety systems, ensuring they meet safety standards.
Requirements:
  • Hold an unrestricted electrical worker's license endorsed 'Electrician'.
  • Possess a Certificate IV in Government Investigations or demonstrate a sound knowledge of investigation practices.
