Job Description

Reporting to the Head of Health, Safety, Compliance and Wellness, the Health and Safety Manager will lead a team of five state-based Health and Safety Business Partners to deliver the health and safety objectives set out in the business's Health and Safety strategy.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide guidance, support, and ongoing development opportunities to foster the growth and effectiveness of the five state-based Health & Safety Business Partners.
  2. Assist with the development and implementation of health and safety policies, procedures, and programs tailored to the Australian rail sector.
  3. Ensure alignment with Australian regulatory frameworks and industry best practices.
  4. Oversee the conduct of thorough risk assessments and hazard analyses to identify potential safety risks inherent in rail and logistics operations, facilities, and work environments.
  5. Stay abreast of changes to Australian occupational health and safety regulations pertinent to health and safety and the rail industry.
  6. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as industry standards set forth by regulatory bodies.
  7. Utilise lead auditor expertise to ensure all required annual internal audits are conducted at each site and identify areas of non-compliance and work collaboratively with the team to develop robust corrective action plans.
  8. Analyse safety data, including incident reports, injury statistics, and near-miss records, to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  9. Provide strategic guidance on proactive safety measures and continuous improvement initiatives.

Desired Skills and Experience:

We are seeking a down-to-earth, proactive leader with a robust understanding of Health & Safety and Rail Safety requirements within the Australian rail industry.

The ideal candidate will have a focus on continuous improvement and also bring lead auditor experience, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and industry standards specific to Australia.

Essential Qualifications:

Certificate IV in Health and Safety

Desirable Qualifications:

Graduate Certificate in Health and Safety

Formal investigation training is advantageous

Experience:

Proven experience in developing and implementing national workplace health and safety policies and procedures

Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and standards pertaining to workplace health and safety

Strong understanding of risk management principles and the ability to conduct thorough risk assessments

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels

Proven track record in delivering effective health and safety training programs

Experience in managing health and safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations

Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and identify trends to drive continuous improvement

Relevant qualifications in occupational health and safety or a related field

Ability to lead a team, providing guidance, support, and direction towards achieving health and safety objectives

A proactive approach to promoting a positive health and safety culture within the workplace
