Role Profile

Assist the local court magistrate in diverting defendants with mental health issues into treatment options by conducting mental health assessments and risk assessments. Utilize advanced communication and interpersonal skills to negotiate and problem-solve with defendants and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To conduct mental health assessments for defendants and provide diversion recommendations.
  • Develop strong relationships with community services to ensure access to treatment options.

Essential Criteria:

  • A relevant postgraduate qualification in mental health.
  • A current NSW driver's license.

Professional Streams:

  • Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 2: A current nursing authority to practice, five years of clinical experience, and three years in an acute mental health setting.
  • Occupational Therapist Level 4: Qualifications registered with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia, general registration, and five years of post-registration clinical experience.
  • Social Worker Level 4: A Bachelor's degree in social work, eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers, and five years of post-registration clinical experience.
  • Clinical Psychologist: A four-year degree in psychology, general registration with AHPRA, and five years of post-registration clinical experience.
