The role of the Secondary Technology and Applied Studies (TAS) Teacher involves delivering high-quality educational programs that cater to the needs of students in the TAS curriculum.
This includes creating engaging learning experiences that foster student participation and skill development in areas such as Design and Technology, Food Technology, Industrial Technology, Software Engineering, and other practical based disciplines.
As a TAS Teacher, you will inspire students to see their design endeavors as part of a greater purpose, emphasizing the value of work in various fields, including Design, Engineering, Software, and Food Technology, when aligned with Christian values and principles.
You will be proactive in sourcing and developing resources that engage, inspire, and challenge students, while ensuring lessons remain safe, relevant, organized, and impactful.
Key Accountabilities- Demonstrate a Christ-like example in the College by:
- Undertaking all activities with a strong Christian commitment and focus.
- Exercising Christian servant leadership among staff, students, parents, and the wider community.
- Performing day-to-day duties prayerfully and consistently with a Biblical lifestyle, aiming to bring glory to God.
- Ensuring strategies and actions align with the College's vision and mission.
- Conducting oneself in accordance with the Statement of Faith and Codes of Conduct.
- Utilize Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software to create 3D models for design projects.
- Ensure the practical environment is safe for students to learn.
- Implement CAM technology, including 3D printers and laser cutters.
- Equip students to use technology in developing digital portfolios to communicate their design management folios.
- Incorporate technology effectively to enhance learning outcomes.
- Ensure smooth transitions between theoretical and practical lessons.
- Deliver curriculum-aligned programs across practical subjects.
- Inspect, maintain, and prepare equipment for student use.
- Organize and prepare materials suitable for each lesson.
- Maintain an organized classroom environment conducive to safe and effective learning.
- Ensure timely setup and safety of classrooms and equipment.
- Maintain tools and materials for practical activities.
- Equip students with real-world design and practical skills through engaging, project-based learning.
- Adapt teaching methods to suit diverse learning styles and encourage active participation and skill development.
- Foster innovation and creativity, encouraging students to think critically and develop unique solutions to real-life problems.
- Deliver engaging, curriculum-based lessons with practical and theoretical components.
- Supervise student safety in workshops and labs.
- Communicate with parents about student progress and concerns through meetings, calls, or scheduled events.
- Participate in parent-teacher interviews and provide course-related information at subject information nights.
- Follow Workplace Health and Safety procedures in all practical lessons.
- Oversee students during recess, lunch, and bus zones, ensuring safety and positive behavior.
- Supervise weekly sports sessions, promoting teamwork and physical activity.
- Supervise students during musical events, excursions, and sports carnivals, ensuring safety and compliance with school policies.
- Facilitate student engagement in off-campus learning activities while maintaining constant vigilance.
- Dedicate time to lesson planning, administrative tasks, correcting student work, preparing resources, and responding to communications.
- Complete tasks like reviewing resources, purchasing supplies, and organizing materials, which may occur during or outside school hours.
- Attend general and departmental meetings, either in person or via teleconference, to address daily operations and school planning.
- Participate in strategic discussions on short- and long-term goals for the school.
- Engage in school committees, such as student council, P&C, or sound and lighting, as required or voluntarily.
- Contribute to voluntary activities, including overnight camps, intra-school sports, and after-school student electives.
- Internal communications:
- Collaborate with the Head and Deputy Head of Secondary and TAS Curriculum leaders to develop curriculum lessons.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of student needs and plans with Heads of Departments, Stage leaders, and Teachers.
- Communicate with the Deputy Principal and Heads of School on TAS related matters and curriculum aspects.
- Manage student safety while ensuring skill development requires discernment and a vigilant eye.
- Ensure consistency of lesson approach, whether classroom or practicals, while making sure students are well engaged and follow instructions.
- Ensure that safety and compliance requirements as per WHS are met due to the associated risk of safety.
- It is an inherent requirement of the role that the incumbent have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, actively attend their local Church, and willingly support the vision and practice of the College as stated in:
- the College Statement of Faith,
- the Staff Pledge that is recited annually at the Staff Commissioning Service, and
- the College Codes of Conduct.
- NESA teacher accreditation.
- Current Working with Children Check.
- Compliant with all NESA requirements in regard to course specifications, mandatory hours, assessment tasks, assessment criteria, and accurate record keeping and standards of the College.
- Substantial experience in teaching students TAS lessons.
- Experience in strengths-based quality teaching framework based on Explicit Instruction.
- Demonstrated experience in the following competencies:
- Integrate technology in teaching and learning which addresses the curriculum needs of students
- Provide feedback and write accurate and thoughtful report comments that reflect the Vision and Mission of the College as well as the child
- Monitor and report on the academic progress of each student within the guidelines set out by the Faculty Coordinator/Head of Secondary School
- Pastoral care with genuine interest in the wellbeing and safety of their students
- Think biblically to ensure programs, rationales, and assessments encourage students about the area of academic studies
- Relevance to individual needs of the students must be ensured so that all relevant subjects and course programs are designed accordingly.
- It is an inherent requirement of the role that the incumbent have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, actively attend their local Church, and willingly support the vision of the College.
- Knowledge of and a deep commitment to child safety in an education setting.
- Current Working with Children Check
- NESA teacher registration and postgraduate qualifications in special education.
- Substantial experience in leading a team in TAS curriculum.
- Demonstrated experience in varying teaching methods, either classroom or in a practical format.
- Demonstrated experience in the following competencies:
