Market Risk Manager: A Key Role in Australia's Financial System

Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join a second-line Market Risk team overseeing trading activity across interest rate and FX markets. You'll work closely with senior leaders to monitor market risk exposure, support enhancements to risk models, and ensure compliance with APS116 and group-wide risk frameworks.

Your day-to-day will involve reviewing financial market trading activity, assessing key risk metrics, and helping shape risk governance policies. You'll also play a hands-on role in identifying emerging risks, documenting portfolio exposures, and ensuring risk frameworks are practical and future-fit.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and manage market risk exposure
  • Support the development of risk models and frameworks
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to drive risk management initiatives
  • Identify and document emerging risks
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • A strong understanding of traded market risk concepts, including VaR, sensitivities, and stress testing
  • Interest or experience in interest rate and FX products, and how these markets work
  • Knowledge of APS116 or market risk governance in Australia
  • Comfort working across systems, with experience in Murex or similar platforms a plus
  • Technical fluency in Python, SQL, R, or VBA, although not essential
  • Sharp written and verbal skills, with the ability to translate complexity into clarity
