Support Student Learning and Development

An educational assistant position is available to support students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in a structured educational setting. This role will work under the direction of a principal and perform various tasks that promote student learning and well-being.
ResponsibilitiesThe ideal candidate will assist students with academic, behavioral, social, emotional, and physical support. Duties may include attending to student personal care and medical needs, working with students who display physical and/or verbal aggression, and participating in learning activities off campus.
This paraeducator will facilitate student mastery of grade-level curriculum or Alternate Academic Achievement Standards in specialized instructional settings. Responsibilities also include performing instructional and classroom management supports, as well as related clerical tasks to support teachers and other professional staff.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS include bending, walking, kneeling, running, and lifting of objects/equipment up to 50 pounds. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS may include outside duty, flexible scheduling, and change of location/program as needed.
Benefits and RequirementsThis part-time position offers a competitive hourly rate and opportunities for growth and development. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of child development, instructional strategies, and policies of Montgomery County Public Schools. They must be able to assist with implementation of the instructional program, monitor and ensure appropriate student behavior, and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge of standard computer hardware and software such as Google Workspace, MS Office, and web-based instructional tools.
- Ability to learn and apply new skills and technologies.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
The successful candidate will have an associate's degree required; bachelor's degree preferred. Coursework including at least nine credit-hours related to education such as behavior management, instructional strategies, is required. One year of experience with students in structured educational settings is preferred. If no related coursework, two to four years of experience working with children/adolescents in a structured setting may be considered.
Candidates with alternative combinations of education, training, and experience that provide the necessary knowledge, abilities, and skills will also be considered.
