Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Rest Full time

At Rest, a leading Australian superannuation fund, we are seeking an experienced Data Engineering Lead to spearhead the development of our investment data platforms. This is a key role within our Investments Data Team, responsible for transforming the way our Investments Function undertakes reporting, insights, and analysis. As a Data Engineering Lead, you will be an integral part of a highly performing collaborative team, working with established data architectures and platforms while having the freedom to build a new capability for the Investments Function. Your primary focus will be on designing, developing, and managing scalable data pipelines using on-premises and cloud-based data platforms, including Snowflake, Talend, DBT, GitLab, AWS S3, and Redshift. You will also lead the maintenance of the Investment team's Snowflake environments, provide advanced support to BAU teams, and proactively monitor, identify, and resolve data-related issues or performance bottlenecks while mitigating risks. One of the key responsibilities of the Data Engineering Lead will be to spearhead collaborations with Product Owners, Data Architects, and Power BI Developers to devise sophisticated data integration patterns, data marts, and modeling techniques that align with business objectives. Additionally, you will be responsible for migrating and transforming large, complex datasets from diverse sources, structures, and formats to support analysis and unlock actionable insights. To ensure high data quality and integrity within investment datasets, you will employ best practices in data governance and compliance. As the go-to investments data expert, you will offer strategic guidance and in-depth support to a wide range of stakeholders. You will also be expected to uphold and enhance data engineering best practices and coding standards within the team. Furthermore, you will oversee the production data platform, ensuring swift resolution of operational issues and maintaining system stability. Your role will also involve collaborating closely with the Head of Investments IT and project leads to strategize workload priorities and project planning. We are looking for a highly experienced data engineering professional with a minimum of 7 years' experience in managing complex data systems. You will have advanced expertise in Snowflake, Talend, DBT, AWS S3, AWS Redshift, and visualization tools like Power BI. Proficiency in SQL and programming/scripting languages such as Python, VBA, or Java is also essential. Experience with MS Power Platform (Power Apps) and Atlan is highly advantageous. Strong foundation in ETL/ELT design, data modeling, and data warehousing principles, as well as mastery of source control tools like Git and adeptness in CI/CD methodologies, are also necessary. Demonstrated success in a run and delivery-focused environment, consistently fulfilling delivery commitments, is crucial. Comprehensive knowledge of data management, data governance best practices, and investment data principles, along with expert-level analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a proactive mindset, are also required. Familiarity with relational and big data architectures, including optimization and data analysis techniques, is also desirable. Good understanding of financial markets and investment strategies, as well as a passion for leveraging technology to drive process improvements, is essential. Keen interest in exploring and applying advanced analytics, AI, ML, and LLMs within the data warehousing domain is also a plus. A preferred background in superannuation or asset management, with experience in an agile project environment, is also advantageous. At Rest, we offer a competitive salary, ranging from AU$120,000 to AU$180,000 per annum, depending on experience. Our benefits have been designed to provide a great work-life balance, including hybrid working, purchase leave scheme, and gender-neutral 16 weeks paid parental leave.
