Research Scientist

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Officer to join our team at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting independent research experiments within their research platform, working collaboratively with their supervisor and other researchers.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct original research under limited supervision, contributing to more than one of the following areas:
- Completion of research projects in an efficient and timely manner, with outcomes published under joint authorship in peer-reviewed journals
- Contribution to team and Garvan research projects
- Presentation of original research at national/international scientific conferences, and as invited to seminars locally and/or nationally
- Co-supervision and mentoring of students and junior research staff
- Provision of supervisory assistance in preparation of research grant proposals, including contribution of data
- Contribution to improvements in techniques, quantitative methods, and quality control
- PhD or MD in molecular biology, genomics, oncology, or a related field
- Minimum of 2 years relevant experience
- Experience with scRNA-seq and spatial transcriptomics techniques is required
- Experience in working with clinical samples
- Prior experience in histology, tissue sectioning, and imaging techniques
- Experience in various molecular biology and tissue culture/primary cell culture techniques
- Prior experience in multi-color flow cytometry
- Strong track record of scientific publications/presentations
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong commitment to continuous delivery of high-quality work
- Excellent communication skills for written reports and oral presentations
- Capacity to work collaboratively with researchers across laboratories
- Well-organized and good time manager with sound administrative abilities
