As a Snow Postdoctoral Researcher, you will have the opportunity to lead significant projects and develop new skills in a supportive environment with a strong emphasis on scientific excellence and a focus on impactful questions.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in a relevant discipline, such as Genomics, Functional Genomics, Population Genomics, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or Statistical Genetics. They will be highly autonomous with a strong motivation for independent research, an outstanding publication track record, and excellent time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.

About the Role

As a Research Scientist, you will perform high-quality independent research, including the development of study hypotheses, designing and executing experiments and analyses, and the preparation of high-impact scientific manuscripts and presentations.

You will actively contribute to the development of research projects and collaborations, and the preparation of research grant proposals and progress reports. You will also co-supervise and mentor students and junior research staff, and actively contribute to a culture of scientific excellence through adherence to research best practices, rigorous quality control, and reproducible science.

About the Team

The Genomic Medicine Lab is a dynamic team with expertise in clinical medicine, genomics, and computational biology. We have key expertise in diseases of inflammation and blindness, where we perform high-quality genomic research to enable clinical impact.

We are part of the Garvan Genomics and Inherited Disease Program, the Centre for Population Genomics, and are supported by generous and long-term funding from Snow Medical.

About the Institute

The Garvan Institute of Medical Research is an independent Medical Research Institute (MRI) in Sydney, delivering scientific and clinical impact on a global basis and in partnership with organisations that share our vision.

We are proud to be one of Australia's largest and most highly regarded MRIs. Our vision is global leadership in discoveries to impact and our enduring purpose is to impact human health by harnessing information encoded in our genome.

We seek to see our world-class discovery research achieve life-changing impacts, not only for individual patients with rare diseases but for the many thousands affected by complex, common disease.

What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary/package and investment into your leadership and professional development. You will also have the opportunity to lead significant projects and develop new skills in a supportive environment with a strong emphasis on scientific excellence and a focus on impactful questions.

We provide ample opportunities for ongoing training and development, a stimulating, diverse, and highly international research environment, and flexible work arrangements. You will also be eligible and encouraged to participate in short-term placements in other Snow Fellow laboratories to gain expertise in new techniques, bring additional skills to the host laboratory or institution, and broaden your network.

We are committed to the principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging, and we seek to build diverse teams with great sets of complementary styles and skills to help deliver our important work effectively.
