
Economic Policy Specialist

The Australian Government invites motivated and collaborative Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander individuals to participate in the Treasury Graduate Development Program. The program aims to contribute positively to government policies affecting Australia, particularly those concerning Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities.
As a graduate of the Treasury, you will have access to rewarding career opportunities within an Australian government agency, exposure to meaningful work across various areas of the department, and the chance to influence economic policies shaping Australia's future.
Program participants undergo three 8-month rotations in different work areas, enabling them to gain comprehensive experience throughout the department. Daily tasks may involve research, analysis, briefing, coordination, advice, and support on policies and initiatives related to existing and emerging priorities.
Required Skills & Qualifications">The successful applicant must possess strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and be able to collaborate effectively with colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
Graduates should demonstrate proficiency in critical thinking, problem-solving, and time management. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are also essential for this role.
Prior knowledge or experience in economics, finance, or public administration is highly desirable but not required.

Additional Information">Most graduates will be based in our Canberra office; however, those residing in Sydney and Melbourne may have the opportunity to secure placements in state offices, with occasional travel to Canberra.
The program runs for 2 years, offering a unique blend of theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and real-world experience that prepares participants for successful careers in the Australian government.
