Domestic Violence Therapist Role

We are seeking a qualified therapist to provide domestic violence therapy and support services for individuals and families affected by domestic and family violence.

The successful incumbent will work with clients from diverse backgrounds, providing individual and group counselling services tailored to meet their unique needs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering trauma-informed therapy sessions to promote safety, recovery, and healing;
  • Providing timely referrals to relevant support services and resources;
  • Facilitating group work programs to foster positive behaviour change among men who have used violence and those affected by it;
  • Maintaining accurate records and reporting incidents as required.

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in Counselling, Social Work, Welfare or Psychology;
  • Relevant professional registration or accreditation;
  • Proven experience working with families experiencing domestic violence and promoting positive behaviour change among men who have used violence;
  • Ability to network and advocate effectively with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Capacity to manage crisis situations and make sound decisions under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of cognitive impairment and its impact on clients and their families;
  • Experience in solution-focused therapy models.
