The Role

This position reports to the Test Automation & Performance Manager and involves providing development coaching and leadership to Automation Engineers, DevOps Engineers, Testers, and Software Engineers on quality practices for implementing quality throughout the delivery lifecycle.

Collaboration with cross-functional teams ensures consistent delivery of maintainable, reliable, and scalable software solutions.

Key Accountabilities

  • Embedded consulting within delivery teams to establish test automation approaches tailored for the team and software.
  • Designing and building tools to help delivery teams automate testing more efficiently.
  • Working with DevOps to set up and maintain infrastructure as code for test automation platforms and tooling.
  • Pairing with developers, test engineers, and senior test engineers to share knowledge and solicit coalface feedback on code quality.
  • Tool evaluation and analysis.
  • Curation of automation code standards.
  • Backlog prioritisation.

Essential Technical Skills

  • Experience in building and operating software using Java 17+, a SPA frontend framework, ideally Angular 15+, GitLab, Terraform, and Docker.
  • Familiarity with testing frameworks such as Cypress and Playwright.
  • Experience in utilising CI/CD tools such as GitLab and AWS for seamless integration and deployment processes.

Knowledge and Experience

  • 5+ years of leading mature Technical Test teams.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in creating and maintaining CI pipelines and best practices for Test Automation in CI/CD delivery.
  • Understanding of AGILE testing methods and the role Test Automation plays.
  • Demonstrable expert knowledge in automated test practices, tools, and techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills, including with technical staff, end-users, and management.

Qualifications, Education & Training Requirements

  • Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Professional certifications in software testing or related fields will be a plus.
  • Knowledge of Auto and General products and services.
