Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled Electrical Engineer to fill the role of Designing and Developing Protection Schemes for High-Voltage and Medium-Voltage Substations, Transmission, and Distribution Networks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop protection schemes for HV/MV substations, transmission, and distribution networks using industry software such as ETAP, PowerFactory, and DigSILENT.
  • Prepare and review relay protection settings, logic diagrams, and scheme drawings in compliance with AS/NZS standards ensuring accuracy and adherence.
  • Conduct protection coordination studies, short circuit analysis, load flow, and stability studies to ensure the safe operation of electrical systems.
  • Develop detailed specifications for protective relays, CTs/VTs, circuit breakers, and associated control/protection panels.
  • Liaise with OEMs (Siemens, ABB, GE, Schneider, SEL) for equipment selection and configuration to ensure compatibility and safety.
  • Prepare technical documentation including protection reports, single-line diagrams, and functional specifications to facilitate project delivery.
  • Support SCADA and communication system integration for protection and control systems ensuring seamless operation.
  • Provide technical input for tendering and project proposals, including equipment schedules and technical compliance matrices to ensure project success.
  • Review factory acceptance test FAT and site acceptance test SAT procedures from a protection perspective to ensure compliance with design intent.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of protection system maloperations and recommend corrective measures to prevent future occurrences.
  • Ensure designs incorporate WHS requirements and isolation measures in protection schemes.
  • Stay current with developments in protection technologies, IEC/IEEE standards, and industry best practices to maintain expertise.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering.
  • Strong understanding of AS/NZS standards and WHS legislation to ensure strict adherence.
  • Skilled in protection coordination, SCADA integration, fault diagnosis, and root cause analysis of HV/MV equipment.
  • Ability to stay updated with the latest advancements in electrical engineering technologies and best practices.
  • Technical troubleshooting skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Willingness to travel to different project sites as required.
