Job Summary

This is a senior leadership role within the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety WA, responsible for leading and directing the WorkSafe Petroleum Safety and Dangerous Goods Directorate.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and direct the implementation of a best-practice risk-based compliance program for the dangerous goods, explosives, major hazard facilities, petroleum safety and geothermal energy industry sectors.
  • Provide strategic advice to the WorkSafe Commissioner and Executive Leadership Group on the operations of the Directorate.
  • Perform the statutory roles of Chief Inspector of Petroleum Safety and Chief Dangerous Goods Officer.
  • Represent the Department at a senior level on committees, working groups, and other forums.
  • Liaise and consult with stakeholders, including industry associations, regulatory bodies, and other government agencies.
  • Build strategic partnerships with industry stakeholders to promote safety and compliance.
  • Lead and direct the operations of the Directorate to achieve outcomes identified in the Department's Strategic Plan.
Requirements
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in leading petroleum or chemical processing operations or inspectorate operations at a senior level.
  • Proven ability to take responsibility, promote accountability, and motivate others to achieve agreed performance outcomes and cultural change.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in relation to work health and safety management in the petroleum industry and/or chemical processing industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in the application of work health and safety laws and/or dangerous goods laws.
  • A Bachelor degree or higher qualification in engineering or science relevant to the role.
