Family Medicine Specialist

This position offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of Defence personnel and their families.

We are seeking an experienced Family Medicine Specialist to join our team, where you will be part of a multidisciplinary group working towards achieving and maintaining the health and wellbeing of Defence members.

As a Family Medicine Specialist, you will provide primary medical care to patients in accordance with professional standards, legislation, and Defence Policies and Procedures.

  • You will assess Defence personnel for fitness for duty and provide care that supports the health and wellbeing of members pre and post deployments.
  • You will form part of a team providing integrated healthcare services to Defence personnel across Australia.

About this role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering high-quality primary medical care to patients
  • Forming strong relationships with Defence personnel and their families
  • Collaborating with other healthcare professionals to achieve optimal patient outcomes
  • Providing medical technical advice to the Joint Health Unit (JHU) Commanding Officer (CO), Joint Health Command (JHC) Health Centre Manager, and Commanders of units

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Current unconditional and unrestricted registration as a Medical Practitioner in Australia with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) or Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM) or Vocational Registration
  • Minimum of 2 years full-time postgraduate general practitioner experience in a general practice setting within the last 5 years (or part-time equivalent)
  • Recent participation in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities in accordance with AHPRA
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (HLTAID009) certification
