Primary Care Physician Role

Job Summary

Deliver primary medical care to patients in accordance with professional standards, legislation, and Defence Policies and Procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Provide essential medical care and support to Australian Defence Force (ADF) Members.
  • Be part of a multidisciplinary team focused on the health and wellbeing of Defence members.
  • Assess Defence personnel for fitness for duty and provide care supporting health and wellbeing pre- and post-deployments.
  • Provide medical technical advice to Joint Health Unit Commanding Officer, Joint Health Command Health Centre Manager, and unit Commanders.
  • Be supported by a team of Senior Medical Officers and uniformed colleagues.
  • Provide services in outpatient or inpatient settings as required.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Current unconditional registration as a Medical Practitioner in Australia with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency.
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners or Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine or Vocational Registration.
  • Minimum 2 years full-time post-graduate general practitioner experience in a general practice setting within the last 5 years.
  • Recent CPD activities in accordance with AHPRA.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification.
  • Must be an Australian Citizen to obtain the required Baseline Security Clearance for this role.

In partnership with Bupa, integrated healthcare services are provided to Australian Defence Force personnel across Australia.

Lavarack Health Centre is located in Townsville at Lavarack Barracks, offering various healthcare services including primary medical, ambulatory care, dental, nursing, physiotherapy, mental health, pharmaceutical care, and a 24/7 inpatient ward.
