Job Title: Duty Lawyer Coordinator

The duty lawyer program in Queensland requires a skilled coordinator to manage its operations effectively. This role involves procuring services by tender, developing and implementing policies, and providing advice to suppliers.

This position entails the coordination of the duty lawyer program in Queensland, including advising on service requirements, supplier performance, government and local purchasing practices, as well as providing liaison with Magistrates/court staff regarding provision of duty lawyer services.

  • The key responsibilities of this role include researching and interpreting policy, providing high-level advice to senior management on major issues and trends arising from monitoring operations.
  • Oversight of the duty lawyer accreditation program is also crucial to ensure its smooth functioning.

About You:

To be successful in this role, you should possess:

  • Strong coordination skills, enabling you to develop and implement policies, strategies, systems, and procedures for effective delivery of professional services.
  • Understanding of contracts, tender processes, and procurement processes relevant to the legal service industry.
  • Excellent written communication skills and ability to use information technology systems.
  • Knowledge of the Queensland Magistrates Court criminal jurisdiction, systems, and procedures, as well as the Legal Aid Queensland Act and scale of fees.
