Senior FX Technical Director

We are seeking an exceptional Senior FX Technical Director to join our team. This role involves gathering 3D assets produced by various departments and utilizing off-the-shelf software, primarily Houdini, and custom pipeline tools to create high-quality particle, pyro, rigid body, fluid, cloth, fur, and hair simulations for top VFX Feature Films.

This role requires a candidate with a minimum of 6 years of high-end feature film VFX experience, proven expertise in producing photoreal effects such as smoke, fire, clouds, water, steam, and explosions, plus experience with particle and voxel-based rendering.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A thorough understanding of techniques and technologies relating to physical simulation in computer graphics
  • Familiarity with at least one node-based compositing application (Nuke preferred)
  • Extensive knowledge of Houdini and Linux/Unix based operating systems

About the Role:

This is a mid-senior level full-time position requiring the right to work in Australia.

Responsibilities

Gather 3D assets from various departments and utilize them to create high-quality simulations using Houdini and custom pipeline tools

Produce photoreal effects such as smoke, fire, clouds, water, steam, and explosions, and ensure they meet production deadlines

Work closely with teams to resolve pipeline issues and ensure smooth project progression

Stay up-to-date with industry developments and implement new techniques and technologies as needed

Requirements

Candidates should have a strong background in VFX, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work under pressure

Familiarity with at least one node-based compositing application (Nuke preferred) and extensive knowledge of Houdini are essential
