Aboriginal Health Support Officer

Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation is seeking an experienced and passionate Aboriginal Identified Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS) Support Officer to join our Kalpa Purru Wirranjarlki – Public Health Services Section in Tennant Creek.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development, promotion, and delivery of evidence-based resources and activities aimed at reducing tobacco smoking and promoting smoke-free environments in Aboriginal communities within the Barkly region.
As a key member of our TIS team, you will work closely with community stakeholders, government agencies, and other partners to develop and implement effective strategies to reduce tobacco use and promote healthy lifestyles.
You will be responsible for supporting the delivery of regional smoking prevention campaigns, community events, and information sharing activities that promote tobacco awareness, cessation, and smoke-free environments.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement community engagement strategies to promote tobacco awareness and cessation.
- Support the development and delivery of regional smoking prevention campaigns and community events.
- Collaborate with community stakeholders, government agencies, and other partners to develop and implement effective strategies to reduce tobacco use.
- Provide support and guidance to community members on tobacco cessation and smoke-free environments.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of relationships with community stakeholders and partners.
- Participate in staff training and development, organisation-wide, site-based team meetings, collaborative planning activities, and other meetings or activities relevant to this position.
To be successful in this role, you must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent and possess the following essential skills and experience:
- Minimum Cert. III in Aboriginal Health or equivalent or be willing to undertake training in order to receive this qualification.
- Experience working in Aboriginal community health or welfare services and ability to support the delivery of culturally responsive programs and services.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to develop and maintain effective networks and relationships, in particular with diverse Aboriginal community groups.
- Demonstrated task completion for community forums or events with due dates.
- Well-developed communication skills necessary to report and inform a multi-disciplinary team and in cross-agency and cross-cultural environments.
- Knowledge and use of Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Current NT drivers license.
Desirable skills and experience include knowledge of the Tennant Creek and Barkly Region, experience and knowledge of working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and 4WD training.
