Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Category Specialist to enhance our Procurement division in Newcastle. This role is pivotal in executing Whitehaven Coal's Procurement strategy and spearheading sourcing initiatives for various goods and services during a dynamic phase for the organization. We value collaborative team players who will contribute to our supportive and friendly team environment. This is a full-time, permanent role based in our Newcastle office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze spending patterns and formulate sourcing strategies
  • Negotiate and finalize contracts with primary suppliers
  • Conduct analysis of vendor expenditure data
  • Identify and mitigate commercial risks associated with procurement
  • Guide and mentor category team members
  • Engage with senior stakeholders to align award strategies with business goals
  • Willingness to travel to operational sites as necessary.

Qualifications and Skills

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Significant experience in managing complex Procurement, Category management, or sourcing projects
  • Strong negotiation capabilities and experience in leading tender processes
  • Experience in overseeing category teams
  • Exceptional analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Proven stakeholder management skills, with a history of effective communication with senior management
  • Advanced proficiency in computer applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with the mining, resources, or construction sectors is advantageous but not mandatory
