About the Role

This fixed-term, part-time Respiratory Medicine Physician position at the Institute for Breathing and Sleep will play a crucial role in conducting research to improve health outcomes for individuals with respiratory failure requiring long-term home ventilatory support.

The successful candidate will primarily contribute to the Synchronise Non-Invasive Ventilation at Home project, comparing different methods for assessing and adjusting home ventilation. This 4-year term position involves working on-site in Heidelberg and occasional travel to trial sites.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in preparing human research and ethics documentation, as well as trial protocols.
  • Oversee protocols and report on research-related sleep laboratory and home monitoring ventilator studies.
  • Supervise and train trial staff and students, ensuring safe clinical care for participants.
  • Contribute to data management, analysis, writing of manuscripts, and presentation at scientific meetings.
  • Provide outpatient clinic consultations for trial participants and participate in the project Steering Committee.
Requirements
  • A registered Medical Practitioner in Australia with AHPRA registration.
  • CURRENT Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or equivalent.
  • Completed a Ph.D. or equivalent.
  • Specialist knowledge in respiratory failure and long-term ventilation, with relevant training and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research in a healthcare setting, including study design, data collection, coding/analysis, and interpretation.
  • Familiarity with Good Clinical Practice requirements and adherence to ICH-GCP and WHO guidelines.
