Secure Systems Engineering Role

This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the design and development of secure systems for national security applications.

As a system engineer, you will be working on priority projects that focus on architecture design, mission assurance, digital engineering, and technology integration. You will have the chance to apply model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools and techniques to help design and evaluate systems that support Australia's defence, intelligence, and whole-of-government security initiatives.

The role requires strong critical thinking and structured problem-solving abilities, as well as effective communication skills to collaborate in multi-disciplinary teams and convey technical ideas to varied audiences.

The selected candidate will participate in a two-week immersion at MITRE's U.S. headquarters, gaining insight into MITRE's global impact and the engineering culture that supports its work with across Australia, US, and their allies.

Upon completion, the participant will transition into a permanent systems engineering role at MITRE | Australia, with opportunities to lead, innovate, and contribute long-term to projects that matter deeply to Australia's national interest.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, and relevant experience supporting or leading MBSE, digital engineering, or architecture modelling efforts in government, defence, or critical infrastructure domains.

The role is hybrid, requiring a minimum of 50% on-site work, and the selected candidate must be eligible to obtain and maintain an Australian Government NV2 security clearance.
