We believe that a strong culture combined with innovative technology is essential to meet the demands of our clients, exemplifying the #powerofexperience.

Role Overview

We are seeking a seasoned Traffic Lead / Traffic Manager to play a pivotal role in our Swan River Crossing Project team. This position is crucial for ensuring safety throughout all phases of the project, including the design, implementation, and coordination of traffic management, diversions, flows, and transitions.

Project Insights

The Swan River Crossings Project is recognized as one of Main Roads WA's most intricate and demanding undertakings, addressing a variety of considerations such as road, port, freight, river, pedestrian, cycling, heritage, and environmental factors.

This initiative will replace the aging Fremantle Traffic Bridge with Australia's first extradosed bridge, featuring both cantilevers and cable support, creating a remarkable entryway to Fremantle.

The Fremantle Bridges Alliance, comprising Arup, WSP, and Laing O'Rourke, will collaboratively design and execute the project alongside Main Roads WA.

Project Objectives:

  • Replace the existing Fremantle Traffic Bridge.
  • Enhance pedestrian and cycling infrastructure over the Swan River to modern standards.
  • Improve marine safety and navigational clearances for river users.
  • Honor both European and Aboriginal heritage through thoughtful design.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety of the construction team through effective traffic management plans and control measures during construction activities.
  • Promote adherence to Laing O'Rourke's health, safety, and environmental policies.
  • Evaluate the environmental implications of proposed construction and verify compliance with engineering standards.
  • Oversee all aspects of traffic management for the project, including leading a team to prepare and secure approval for Traffic Management Plans for all construction activities.
  • Ensure all site operations align with approved designs and comply with road safety plans and audits.
  • Provide on-site engineering services and technical support to facilitate the planning, execution, and maintenance of traffic management within established guidelines.
  • Conduct job planning and scheduling with minimal disruption to the surrounding road network for construction activities.
  • Manage the traffic management budget and forecasts, covering traffic controllers, temporary barriers, signage, pavement markings, and road safety audits.
  • Supervise subcontractors in the development of staging plans and traffic guidance schemes.
  • Act as the primary liaison with stakeholders regarding traffic impacts of major closures to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Plan and implement all traffic switches, including organizing barrier movements, line marking adjustments, and signage changes.
  • Prepare and submit monthly and weekly reports.

Candidate Profile:

  • Demonstrated experience in a similar traffic management role.
  • Proven track record in leading and managing multiple large-scale road projects characterized by high traffic volumes and complex logistical challenges.
  • A strong commitment to safety and excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to foster collaboration across departments to achieve optimal project outcomes.
  • Exceptional communication skills and a solid understanding of traffic management issues, essential for effective interaction with local road authorities and stakeholders.

Benefits:

We strive to cultivate an environment that maximizes the potential of our workforce. Our commitment to career development is reflected in our safe, connected, and innovative culture that encourages continuous growth. We offer industry-leading benefits, including specialized learning and development programs, mental health and wellbeing initiatives, a comprehensive paid parental leave policy, an additional purchased leave option, and coaching programs for staff on parental leave.

We are dedicated to building a workforce that mirrors the diverse society in which we operate. Laing O'Rourke proudly holds the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) Citation - Employer of Choice for Gender Equality. We actively support a diverse workforce and strongly encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, as well as individuals from culturally diverse backgrounds.
