Defence Health Safety and Environment Specialist

We are seeking a technically skilled Health, Safety, Environment and Security Advisor to drive excellence in health safety and environmental management across Defence operations.
This key role will work closely with Program Managers supporting ADF Ground Support Equipment and Counter-CBRNE contracts. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing and implementing HSE protocols tailored to operational contexts ensuring alignment with Defence and Commonwealth standards.
The expertise of the chosen candidate will guide risk assessments, incident investigations, and audit activities where precision and resilience are critical.
Responsibilities- Advise on health and safety considerations throughout the asset lifecycle from capability planning and procurement to sustainment ensuring safety controls are integrated into every phase.
- Interpret relevant legislation, apply ISO standards 14001 and 45001, and analyse HSE data to identify emerging risks and drive continuous improvement.
- Lead toolbox talks, mentor operational teams, and partner with stakeholders to embed a proactive learning-focused safety culture.
- Australian Citizen with a Defence security clearance or ability to obtain one.
- AQF Level 4 Qualification or Equivalent in Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental Risk Management or transferable engineering-related qualification.
- Previous experience in a similar role preferably within Defence or high-risk industries.
- Strong understanding of relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation, codes of practice, and industry standards.
- Proficient in root cause analysis and incident investigation methodologies.
- Competent in using HSEQ management systems including accurate data entry and event management.
