About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Development Engineer to lead our Development Engineering team at MidCoast Council. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing all engineering and public infrastructure matters related to private development projects across the MidCoast region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Development Engineering team, driving innovative solutions and maintaining high standards for engineering assessments and advice.
  • Manage the assessment of development applications and applications for civil works, ensuring compliance with Council's infrastructure-related conditions through development engineering inspections/surveillance.
  • Provide strategic leadership to implement best practices in development engineering and public infrastructure management.
  • Develop systems to monitor and report on the team's performance, ensuring services are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Support a positive organisational culture by fostering collaboration across teams, mentoring staff, and driving continuous improvement in processes and standards.
Requirements
  • Qualifications in Civil Engineering or a related field and extensive experience in a similar local government role.
  • Proven leadership experience in managing teams within a community-focused or politically sensitive setting.
  • Strong knowledge of legislative and professional requirements related to development engineering.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to manage stakeholders and resolve conflicts.
  • A track record of delivering projects on time and within budget, with demonstrated success in driving operational efficiencies.
What We Offer

Salary: Salary range: $127,700 - $153,200 p.a. + superannuation (negotiable based on experience). Additional 3.5% Civil Liability Allowance on top of the base salary. Vehicle arrangement: A fully maintained leaseback vehicle for both business and private use.

This position is based at our state-of-the-art Administration Centre, Yalawanyi Ganya, in Taree. You may also be required to work across other MidCoast Council sites.

Tenure: Permanent, Full-Time.
