About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Strategic Investment Manager to join our team at the State Government of Victoria, Australia. As a key member of our department, you will play a critical role in providing authoritative and strategic advice on investment strategy to Ministers and department executives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and direct the provision of technical and strategic analysis and advice to relevant Ministers, the Secretary, and senior executives on short to medium-term transport budget and investment strategies.
  • Oversee and provide objective expert guidance on contentious issues and negotiate agreed pathways to facilitate the production of robust and widely-supported investment advice.
  • Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with stakeholders within the department and its agencies, Ministers' offices, and central agencies to manage risks and resolve issues.
  • Coordinate the development and lodgement of the department's budget submission and provide guidance and support for the development of robust business cases.

Requirements:

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to deliver tangible business outcomes as a result of critically evaluating problems from multiple perspectives.
  • Business and commercial acumen, with a broad understanding of procurement and finance concepts to inform expenditure decisions relating to infrastructure in the public sector.
  • Strategic planning skills, with the ability to guide others through the strategic planning process and create a shared vision for the future.
  • Influence and persuasion skills, with the ability to gain agreement to proposals and ideas and build behind-the-scenes support for ideas to ensure buy-in and support from key stakeholders.
