Skilled Fitter and Turner

This role involves precise fitting, assembly, and machining of metal components used in production machinery and specialized equipment. The successful candidate will work from technical drawings to produce, install, and maintain high-quality mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Study technical drawings and specifications to identify materials, required processes, and machining settings
  • Fitting and assembling fabricated metal parts and subassemblies to create complete machinery and equipment
  • Using precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions, clearances, and mechanical accuracy
  • Operating machine tools (e.g. lathes, grinders, milling machines) to shape and finish components to fine tolerances
  • Cutting, bending, threading, and installing hydraulic and pneumatic pipes and systems
  • Setting up guides, dies, and shaping tools in presses and textile machinery as applicable
  • Maintaining, overhauling, and repairing mechanical components and fluid power systems
  • Performing fault diagnosis and routine operational maintenance of equipment
  • Assisting in the erection and installation of machinery and production systems when required

Requirements:

  • Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade or equivalent
  • Proven experience in a similar Fitter and Turner or mechanical trades role
  • Strong proficiency in interpreting technical diagrams and performing precision measurements
  • Competence in operating various metalworking machines and hand tools
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems and their installation
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a fabrication or maintenance team
  • Commitment to safety standards and workshop best practices
