Job Overview

This role offers the opportunity to work within a multi-disciplinary environment, providing supportive care to individuals facing serious health concerns. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills and be able to empathize with patients and their families in times of need.

About the Role
  • The Supportive Care Welfare Officer addresses the spiritual well-being of patients/families dealing with life-limiting illnesses, dementia, or death. They listen and support patients/families as they try to find hope and make meaning out of their experiences of illness and suffering in a non-judgmental way.
Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide pastoral interventions to patients/families from diverse cultural and spiritual backgrounds.
  2. Communicate effectively with distressed clients experiencing intense emotions associated with grief, loss, and bereavement.
  3. Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team to provide comprehensive care.
  4. Maintain awareness of suicide risk in aged care and palliative care populations and adhere to proper protocols.
  5. Demonstrate a well-developed personal spirituality and reflective practice.
Requirements
  • A minimum of 1 unit of Clinical Pastoral Education and/or a degree in a relevant field, or equivalent work experience, including membership in Spiritual Care Australia.
  • Demonstrated sound understanding of pastoral interventions and experience working with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills, including effective communication with distressed clients.
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary environment with strong communication and interaction skills.
  • Awareness of Microsoft Office packages and ability to work within the Mission and Values of Calvary Health Care Kogarah.
