About the Role

The Department of Neurology and Stroke is seeking an unaccredited neurology registrar who delivers high-quality, effective patient-centric care.

This role contributes to the neurology and stroke service by undertaking care of both inpatients and outpatients under consultant neurologists' supervision. The registrar will run rapid-access clinics, including a TIA/stroke clinic and general neurology clinic. They may participate in neurology clinics, such as EEG and NCS, upon discussion with the head of department.

Key responsibilities include participating in 2-3 outpatient clinics per week and contributing to the out-of-hours, on-call roster for neurology and stroke in a 1:4 roster. These duties involve assessing and managing acute stroke patients, who require acute therapy (thrombolysis and suitability for endovascular clot retrieval), and undertaking ward rounds on weekends. Suitable support from on-call consultants will be provided.

The registrar gains experience in managing stroke, assessment, and selection of patients for acute therapy and endovascular clot retrieval. They also obtain exposure and training in advanced imaging for acute stroke, becoming confident in interpreting multimodal CT (CTA and CTP) and MRI. This role allows for experience in managing complex neurology patient care, both inpatient and outpatient. Opportunities are available to participate in education, support, and training to gain experience in neurology and pursue formal neurology advanced training if desired. Research projects in neurology will also be available.

Additionally, the registrar will contribute to research projects in neurology, enhancing their skills and knowledge in this field. Regular feedback and coaching from experienced consultants will be provided to support their professional development.
