About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Criminal Lawyer to fill this challenging position in Townsville. As part of our team, you will manage a diverse caseload, representing private clients in both summary and indictable matters.
Your key responsibilities will include conducting thorough client consultations, preparing detailed legal submissions, negotiating with the Director of Public Prosecutions, and regularly appearing in various courts for appeals, bail applications, and breaches.
You will also work closely with top criminal barristers, providing comprehensive briefs and drafting precise legal correspondence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a criminal law caseload with a focus on complex summary and indictable matters
- Represent private clients (non-legal aid) and handle client meetings to gather instructions and provide expert advice
- Prepare and negotiate high-quality submissions with the DPP
- Appear in court regularly for appeals, bail applications, and other hearings, demonstrating strong advocacy skills
- Draft clear and concise correspondence, legal advice, and briefs for counsel
- Collaborate effectively with some of the region's leading criminal barristers, fostering strong professional relationships
- Exhibit exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on attention to detail and analytical thinking
