Urban Planning Opportunity: We are seeking an experienced Strategic Planner to join our City Strategy and Design team.

This is a chance to work on diverse and high-impact projects that shape the future of our city, from major rezonings and State Significant Developments to the creation of planning policies and strategies that improve liveability, sustainability, and design outcomes.

In this role, you will:

  • Assess complex planning proposals and policy reviews.
  • Negotiate agreements to secure optimal community outcomes.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and review of land use strategies, planning instruments, and urban design policy.
  • Represent Council's interests on State infrastructure and development projects.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, manage specialist consultants, and engage with stakeholders.
  • Prepare reports and advice for Council and the Local Planning Panel.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualifications in town planning or a related field (essential).
  • Proven track record in strategic planning, policy development, and assessment work.
  • Strong understanding of planning legislation and the plan-making process.
  • Demonstrated experience negotiating agreements and achieving positive outcomes.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate, and build strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to balance competing priorities.
