About the Role & You
- Hours: Full Time Fixed
- Classification: Grade 1 Medical Scientist
The successful candidate will be required to participate in staff rotations, overtime, and on-call & out-of-hours rosters. Operational hours of the laboratory are 05:00 - 21:00 Monday to Friday and 06:00 - 14:30 Saturday. Participate in self-education activities, internal & external training courses, and in clinical and scientific meetings (including speaking). You must be able to perform tests provided by the unit without supervision (following suitable training) which include:
- Receipt and acceptance of specimen(s) into the laboratory for testing.
- Prepare paraffin sections of surgical and necropsy specimens;
- Perform and assist with the specimen cut-up; Experience or desire to learn complex cut-up considered an advantage (Training provided)
- Prepare frozen sections for urgent diagnosis;
- Perform routine, special staining, and immunohistochemistry techniques using prescribed methodologies and appropriate control procedures;
- Attendance at renal biopsy procedure to ensure appropriate tissue sampling
- Equipment maintenance as rostered
- Other duties as directed.
