About the Role

  • Hours: Full Time Fixed
  • Classification: Grade 1 Medical Scientist

You will be required to participate in staff rotations, overtime, and on-call & out-of-hours rosters. Operational hours of the laboratory are 05:00 - 21:00 Monday to Friday and 06:00 - 14:30 Saturday. You will perform a range of tasks including:

  • Receipt and acceptance of specimen(s) into the laboratory for testing.
  • Prepare paraffin sections of surgical and necropsy specimens;
  • Perform and assist with the specimen cut-up; Experience or desire to learn complex cut-up considered an advantage (Training provided)
  • Prepare frozen sections for urgent diagnosis;
  • Perform routine, special staining and immunohistochemistry techniques using prescribed methodologies and appropriate control procedures;
  • Attendance at renal biopsy procedure to insure appropriate tissue sampling
  • Equipment maintenance as rostered
  • Other duties as directed.
