About the Opportunity

We are seeking a seasoned Urban Design Lead to drive and support high-profile initiatives aligned with the Central Hobart Plan Implementation Program.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert advice on urban design and referrals, including support for the Urban Design Advisory Panel (UDAP).
  • Liaise with stakeholders on major state, regional, commercial, and private projects.
  • Lead the delivery of critical Central Hobart Plan actions, including:
    • Hobart Design Guidelines Implementation: Develop policy, toolkits, and training to enhance development review processes.
    • Elizabeth Street Vision Plan: Progress the movement and place vision for Hobart's central street and lead early-stage built projects.
    • Public Realm Design Manual (Stage 2 - prototype testing): Provide design principles, character areas, and design palette for the City's streets, squares, parks, and reserves.
  • Collaborate on the delivery of critical Central Hobart Plan actions, including:
    • Infrastructure Investment Plan: Identify priority upgrades and mechanisms for delivery.
    • Development Ready Innovation Precinct: Create a spatial and infrastructure framework for Hobart's most dynamic precinct.
Essential Qualifications
  • Degree or higher qualification in City/Urban Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, or a closely related discipline.
  • Proven experience in urban design, strategic planning, or related fields.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and project leadership skills.
  • Ability to translate complex urban challenges into actionable design and planning solutions.
  • Collaborative mindset with experience working across government, private sector, and community groups.
