Lead Design Chapter
We're seeking a senior product designer to lead our design chapter, working alongside talented designers to reimagine digital experiences for millions of Australians. This is a rare opportunity to shape a new design chapter from the ground up—growing an exceptional team, forging a creative culture, and setting the standards for design craft.

This role involves defining the chapter culture, processes, and responsibilities, as well as actively contributing as a product designer within one of our multidisciplinary squads. You will establish and evolve the chapter's mission, operating rhythm, and best practices; set tangible goals for craft, culture, and career progression; and champion the Product Designer role across the organization.

Responsibilities

Define and Lead the Design Chapter

  • Establish and evolve the chapter's mission, operating rhythm, and best practices.
  • Set tangible goals for craft, culture, and career progression.
  • Champion the Product Designer role across the organization.
  • Coach, develop, and retain talent.
  • Provide regular, actionable feedback to promote continuous growth and technical excellence.
  • Create an inclusive, supportive environment where designers can do their best work.
  • Build a strong team identity and foster collaboration across designers and squads.

Deliver Outstanding Design Work (Squad Contribution)

  • Be a hands-on member of a product squad, delivering high-quality design work that solves real user problems.
  • Facilitate design thinking, usability testing, and iterative improvements.
  • Advocate for customers at every step—from strategy, discovery to delivery.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build effective partnerships with CX, product, engineering, data, and other teams.
  • Clearly communicate the value and impact of design to senior stakeholders and influence product strategy.

Uplift Design Craft and Capability

  • Lead design critiques, reviews, and share-outs.
  • Identify skill gaps and champion targeted upskilling and professional development opportunities.

You will be responsible for driving design excellence, ensuring seamless communication between design and cross-functional teams, and advocating for customer-centric solutions. To succeed in this role, you'll need 7+ years of experience designing digital/staff products end-to-end in cross-functional product teams, as well as a deep understanding of human-centred design methodologies and how to apply and execute them pragmatically in a fast-paced agile environment. Strong collaboration and communication skills are essential, as you'll be working closely with engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders.
