We are seeking a talented Naval Architecture Lead to join our team in Sydney, Australia. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong technical skills and experience in naval architecture design.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering engineering services for naval ships, including systems responsibility for general arrangement, concept design, weight control, stability, seakeeping, maneuvering, and ship performance.

You will also be involved in outfit design activities such as compartment arrangements, structural closures, fire protection, deck arrangements, and equipment installation.

In addition to these responsibilities, you will provide high-level engineering technical competence based on relevant experience and knowledge, and contribute to the development of new naval ship system designs.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide high level of engineering technical competence based on relevant experience and knowledge.
  2. Deliver engineering services for naval ships, including systems responsibility for general arrangement, concept design, weight control, stability, seakeeping, maneuvering, and ship performance.
  3. Involved in outfit design activities such as compartment arrangements, structural closures, fire protection, deck arrangements, and equipment installation.
  4. Contribute to the development of new naval ship system designs.
  5. Plan and coordinate assigned engineering projects from concept through to delivery.
  6. Supervise and guide team members on other projects.
  7. Mentor and coach more junior members of the team.
  8. Participate in design coordination meetings with other Engineering Teams.
  9. Participate in Design Review Meetings with the customer or customer's representative.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering - Naval Architect.
  • Proven skills and experience in a Naval Architecture function.
  • Experience in a technical and industrial Defence environment.
  • Familiarity and understanding of statutory regulations and Classification and Flag state rule sets.
  • Familiarity and experience of ship structural design and its application to local structure and foundations.
  • Ability to produce clear, well written, and well-presented reports to a high quality and standard.
  • Familiarity and experience of ship systems design and its impact upon integration.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to manage, prioritise and complete multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships at all levels of the business and Clients.
