About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Animation Supervisor to join our team at DNEG. As a key member of our animation department, you will be responsible for developing, documenting, and supporting artist tools and workflows to create high-quality animation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review technical requirements of current and future shows to determine new tool/workflow developments or improvements.
  • Work closely with department supervisors and heads of department to ensure tasks, methodology, and priorities align with the department's roadmap and future projects.
  • Collaborate globally with animation heads of department and technical supervisors to ensure tools and workflows are used consistently throughout the company.
  • Communicate with colleagues within other departments to understand needs and communicate requirements.
  • Deliver tools and workflows on schedule by efficiently managing tasks, development teams, and cross-department communication.
  • Act as product owner for tool/workflow projects requiring production technology resources.
  • Support and train team members using tools and workflows, collaborating with the training team and pipe TDs and developers.
  • Support transition of maintenance and support of tools from the department to the production technology team.
Requirements
  • Significant production experience of Maya & Linux within the film industry (+5 years).
  • Good production experience of Jira & Shotgun (+3 years).
  • Experience managing/mentoring small teams of animators or pipe TDs (+2 years).
  • Experience communicating between animators/production and technical production-technology teams.
  • Ability to problem solve and predict potential problems.
  • Excellent understanding of how animation department workflows fit in the wider production pipeline.
  • Knowledge of developing tools that fit within larger systems.
  • Able to proactively use knowledge and experience to identify, communicate, and solve problems.
  • Able to organise and manage multiple priorities and handle change.
  • Comfortable with global collaboration and excellent communication skills.
