Mental Health Specialist
Job Overview
The Mental Health Specialist role is based at The Alfred Hospital – Aged Mental Health Unit and provides secondary support to residents at The Greenhouse. The Greenhouse is an acute inpatient assessment unit with 15 beds, operating 24/7 in an interdisciplinary model with 24-hour nursing care.
The incumbent will be closely supervised by senior clinicians and will develop skills in community settings and build a portfolio of community support services. The Greenhouse offers a graduated model of residential rehabilitation for people with mental illness and related disability who require more structured care than available in less intensive community options.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality patient care as part of the interdisciplinary team.
- Develop skills in community settings and build a portfolio of community support services.
- Work closely with senior clinicians and other healthcare professionals to deliver effective treatment plans.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training to stay up-to-date with best practices in mental health care.
Requirements
- Registration with APHRA as a registered nurse.
- A current driver's licence is essential.
- Post-registration experience is essential, preferably in inpatient or residential rehabilitation settings.
- Demonstrated safe and appropriate clinical practice with sound risk and mental state assessment skills.
- Comprehensive understanding of key aspects of Mental Health Act and other relevant Acts.
- High performer, team player, customer focused, motivated and enthusiastic.
