As a Community Support Specialist, you will assist consumers of the Head to Health service, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team that includes specialist nurses, allied health professionals, and fellow peer support workers. Your role will involve:

Receiving support from our Head to Health Service Manager. Accessing top-tier professional supervision and development opportunities. Contributing innovative ideas to bridge mental health service gaps in the community.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver support services to consumers in alignment with the service model. Build and maintain connections with consumers, ensuring appropriate boundaries with guidance from your supervisor. Co-facilitate and lead group programs as needed. Foster hope and promote self-empowerment, aiding consumers in their recovery journeys. Engage in discussions with consumers to identify their strengths, needs, and goals, assisting them in crafting their support plans. Provide information about community resources and facilitate connections to additional support services.

Required Skills (Selection Criteria):

Demonstrated lived experience as a consumer of mental health services, with an understanding of the associated challenges. If applicable, a minimum of two years free from alcohol or drug use concerns. Knowledge of peer support principles, self-determination, person-centered care, and the concept of recovery. Strong understanding of consumer confidentiality and professional conduct. Ability to manage relationships and establish clear boundaries. Capacity to maintain one's own mental health and demonstrate resilience strategies. Proficiency in communicating personal experiences in a safe and purposeful manner, encouraging others to share their stories.

Additional Requirements:

Post-secondary qualification in Peer Work or a willingness to pursue an approved Peer Work course. National Police Clearance, issued within the last three months. Valid Driver's Licence.
