Water Resources Engineer Job Description

This role involves undertaking hydrological, flood modelling and dam safety projects. The successful candidate will have experience in delivering extreme flood hydrology studies for dam catchments, assessing the likelihood of dam crest flood events, and estimating the depth of dam overtopping associated with a probable maximum flood event (PMF).

The candidate will be familiar with the ANCOLD consequence assessment guidelines and experienced in applying these to assess consequence categories for dams, and calculating population at risk (PAR) and potential loss of life (PLL). They will also be familiar with LifeSIM and other programs used to assess consequences of failure.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Undertake and lead a range of hydrology, flood modelling and dam safety projects.
  • Complete office based hydrological, flood modelling and consequence assessments, including the use of a variety of modelling software packages.
  • Prepare risk assessments and method statements.
  • Collate and analyse data.
  • Provide specialist hydrological, flood modelling and dam safety support to other technical disciplines within Jacobs, including for infrastructure projects.
Requirements
  1. Degree in Engineering.
  2. Author technical reports that detail the type, methodologies, results of field activities, interpretation of results and impact assessment.
  3. Coach and mentor others.
  4. Liaise directly with clients in a confident manner and lead meetings with clients.
  5. Build relationships with clients, contribute to business development and support the pursuit of new opportunities with existing and new clients.
  6. Effectively collaborate with the wider water resource practice to share technical skills, resources or work packages.
  7. Attain/maintain proficiency in the use of standard tools, techniques and equipment that are required for the undertaking, completion and delivery of your work.
  8. Liaise with clients, stakeholders and regulators.
  9. Liaise with Jacobs teams across the globe.
  10. Presentation of information to stakeholders in meetings in a concise and effective manner.
  11. Authoring complex assessments/reports.
  12. Report checking and review.
