The Reject Shop is a leading Australian discount variety retailer with over 380 stores nationwide. We pride ourselves on our supportive team culture and customer-centric approach, delivering the best value and variety possible.

We are seeking a skilled Buyer to join our Merchandise team, responsible for one of our largest categories in the consumables department. This role is a hybrid position, working in the office Monday to Wednesday.

The successful candidate will be accountable for delivering a profitable category, driving and developing key supplier relationships, and executing our customer-centric category strategy.

A Day in the Role:

  1. Develop and implement a strategy to ensure great quality, value, and experience for our customers.
  2. Drive simple, consistent, and efficient processes to achieve our Low-Cost model.
  3. Grow profitable sales for the portfolio by winning customers with a market-leading proposition.
  4. Develop a customer-centric category vision through a strategic approach to deliver the Product and Price directive.
  5. Lead category transformation and drive sales performance in line with budget forecasts and last year's results.
  6. Remove duplication and range fringe to deliver the simplest customer proposition.
  7. Deliver KPIs of sales and profit to budget.
  8. Bring innovative new concepts to the category.
  9. Develop supplier negotiations and lead negotiations.
  10. Ensure all products are purchased in line with Australian quality standards.
  11. Achieve markdowns, stock turns, and fast-turning inventory.

What You Can Bring to the Role:

  1. Proven experience in retail buying, preferably within FMCG.
  2. Strong negotiation skills and ability to build effective relationships with suppliers.
  3. Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret sales data and market trends.
  4. Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  5. Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  6. Results-driven and proactive, with a passion for delivering value to customers.
  7. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant software applications.
