Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our esteemed Astrophotonics research group at The University of Western Australia.

About the Role

This is an outstanding opportunity for a talented researcher to contribute towards radio astronomy instrumentation, terrestrial laser links, space laser links, and quantum technologies. You will work closely with our Principal Research Fellow to mentor junior staff and supervise Masters and PhD students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research under broad direction, contributing to various projects within the Astrophotonics group
  • Mentor and supervise junior researchers, including Masters and PhD students
  • Lead and coordinate research activities, ensuring timely completion and high-quality results
  • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve team objectives and foster a positive working environment
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A PhD in an academic field relevant to the discipline or other appropriate higher professional qualifications
  • Significant experience in several technical areas, including radio astronomy instrumentation, free-space optics, optical fibre coupling, experimental frequency metrology, classical and coherent optical communications systems, and quantum technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to lead public engagement activities that promote research and education outcomes, government, and industry
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with evidence of a commitment to equity and diversity principles
Salary and Benefits

The salary for this position is approximately $120,000 - $150,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition to your base salary, you will receive a range of benefits, including access to state-of-the-art research facilities, opportunities for professional development, and a comprehensive remuneration package.
