Lead Geotechnical Engineer - Project Delivery

The Torrens to Darlington project is South Australia's biggest-ever road infrastructure project, involving the construction of two tunnels and an open motorway. As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping project strategy, managing geotechnical risks, and ensuring seamless integration of complex design solutions across tunnelling, retaining structures, ground improvement, and foundation systems.

Job Description:

You will oversee and review geotechnical analyses, reports, and designs to ensure technical excellence. Manage site investigations, monitoring programs, and assess geotechnical risks. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate geotechnical solutions into broader project delivery. Provide technical advice to project leadership and stakeholders, including participation in engagement activities. Mentor junior engineers and graduates towards achieving Chartered Engineering Status.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversight and review of geotechnical analyses, reports, and designs for technical excellence
  • Management of site investigations, monitoring programs, and geotechnical risk assessment
  • Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams for geotechnical solution integration
  • Technical advice provision to project leadership and stakeholders
  • Mentorship of junior engineers and graduates for Chartered Engineering Status achievement
  • Championing safety, sustainability, and quality within the geotechnical team

Requirements:

A Bachelor's degree holder in civil engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline, with 10–15 years of experience as a Geotechnical Engineer or Engineering Geologist, preferably on large infrastructure projects. Proven expertise in project management, temporary works, subsurface, and groundwater investigations is essential. Skilled in logging pile, excavation, and drilling soil samples, as well as conducting groundwater assessments. Experience calculating and assessing ground bearing pressures for various plant and structures is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong ability to assess and interpret geotechnical design drawings and technical reports is necessary. Knowledge of contamination assessment for soil and groundwater is also required. A team player, flexible, and willing to learn new skills is expected.
