Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Family Liaison and Community Engagement Specialist to join our Defence Member and Family Support Branch (DMFS) team in Townsville.

About the Role

The successful applicant will play a crucial role in helping Defence families connect and engage with their wider community and families. You will be an integral part of a dynamic and multidisciplinary team that works collaboratively to provide crisis support, advice to Commanders, referrals to external agencies, information on local services, education advice and general information on Defence matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with Defence families, key stakeholders and the wider community to promote networking and community engagement.
  • Organise and facilitate social functions to promote Defence family events and activities.
  • Use innovative and creative ways to promote and deliver DMFS programs and events.
  • Provide information and advice about local community resources and services to Defence families.
  • Participate in Command and Unit facilitated events and functions for families.
  • Build knowledge of community services and engage with service providers to inform them of the needs of Defence families.

Requirements and Qualifications

We are looking for a team player who can use their initiative to provide innovative ways to engage with Defence families. Strong stakeholder engagement is required, along with excellent communication, liaison and event planning skills. The ideal candidate will have strong organisational skills, be able to coordinate functions, prioritise, work independently and demonstrate an understanding of confidentiality. Some after hours and weekend work is required.

Workplace Environment

This role requires facilitating events including set up and pack up of information stands at a range of different venues in the local community, including on military bases in the North Queensland region.

Salary and Benefits

The estimated annual salary for this role is $76,277 - $83,274, plus up to 15.4% superannuation. We also offer a range of benefits and opportunities for professional growth and development.
