About the Role & Team

We are seeking a motivated individual to become a part of our Griddle (Timetabling) team as a Senior Software Engineer. Reporting to the Griddle Engineering Manager, you will focus on our new timetabling product, Griddle, working on features such as Course Selection, Class List Management, Timetable Generation, and more.

Your responsibilities will include building and deploying new functionalities, supporting existing features, and enhancing site scalability, infrastructure, and testing, all within a collaborative and agile environment.

  • Design, develop, and maintain secure, scalable software utilized by thousands of students, parents, and educators globally.
  • Promote quality and best practices by advocating for software craftsmanship, clean coding, and pair programming.
  • Foster strong relationships with your team, sharing insights and feedback openly.
  • Grow, learn, lead, and thrive within a supportive team committed to your success.
  • Mentor colleagues and influence architectural strategies by applying industry best practices and adhering to Griddle's software engineering guidelines.
  • Engage with customers to understand their needs and collaborate with Product Owners and Designers to develop solutions.
  • Contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture, taking pride in impactful work for school communities.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in troubleshooting complex software systems, with the ability to discern valuable problems to solve for customers and the business.

  • Experience with modern product and engineering principles and practices.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.

Technical Expertise:

  • Proven experience (4+ years) in object-oriented programming languages, particularly Java.
  • Proven experience (4+ years) with frontend JavaScript libraries and frameworks, as well as TypeScript.
  • Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, and proficiency in designing and implementing database solutions.
  • Familiarity with testing practices, including TDD or automation.
  • Bonus points for experience with Spring Framework, RabbitMQ, or AWS.
