About the Position & Team
We are seeking a motivated professional to become a part of our Griddle (Timetabling) team as a Senior Software Engineer. Reporting to the Griddle Engineering Manager, this position will focus on our innovative timetabling product, Griddle, with an emphasis on features such as Course Selection, Class List Management, Timetable Generation, and more.
Your responsibilities will include building and deploying new functionalities, supporting existing features, enhancing site scalability, and improving infrastructure and testing, all within a collaborative and agile work environment.

- Design, develop, and maintain secure, scalable software utilized by thousands of students, parents, and educators globally.
- Promote quality and best practices by advocating for software craftsmanship, clean coding, and collaborative programming.
- Foster strong relationships within your team, sharing insights and feedback openly.
- Advance your skills and leadership within a supportive team dedicated to your success.
- Guide junior colleagues and influence architectural strategies by adhering to industry best practices and Compass Education's engineering standards.
- Engage with our clients to understand their requirements, collaborating with Product Owners and Designers to develop solutions that address their challenges.
- Contribute to our diverse and inclusive culture, taking pride in work that positively impacts educational communities.
Qualifications:
What You Bring:
- A strong commitment to developing high-quality products while aligning with company goals alongside other skilled developers.
- A genuine enthusiasm for software development and a proactive approach to staying current with emerging technologies.
- Extensive experience in troubleshooting complex software systems, with the ability to discern when a problem merits resolution for both the customer and the organization.
- A dedication to mentoring junior team members and fostering their growth as engineers.
- A sense of pride and ownership in the software you create.
- Experience with contemporary product and engineering principles and practices.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Capability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Technical Expertise:
- Proven experience (4+ years) in object-oriented programming languages, particularly Java.
- Demonstrated experience (4+ years) with frontend JavaScript libraries and frameworks, as well as TypeScript.
- Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases, such as MongoDB, and proficiency in designing and implementing database solutions.
- Familiarity with testing methodologies, including TDD or automation.
- Bonus points for experience with Spring Framework, RabbitMQ, or AWS.
