Job Title: Senior Aboriginal Health Worker, Palliative Care

">Overview

The Southern NSW Local Health District seeks an experienced and skilled Senior Aboriginal Health Worker to join their team. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Aboriginal people approaching the end of their lives.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with clinicians, community-based service providers, patients, and families to ensure culturally safe environments for Aboriginal patients and their families within a multidisciplinary team.

">Key Responsibilities
  • Provide non-clinical services including cultural and medical advocacy to promote respectful and culturally appropriate palliative and end-of-life care for Aboriginal people.
  • Lead the development of culturally safe environments for Aboriginal patients and their families within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Work closely with clinicians, community-based service providers, patients, and families to ensure access to appropriate palliative and end-of-life support across the continuum of care.
">Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Relevant qualifications relating to Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health Care, including but not limited to Certificate IV in Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health Care and/or relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal people in relation to illness, grief, and loss and Aboriginal social and emotional wellbeing.
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead the development of culturally safe environments for Aboriginal patients and their families within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated understanding of advance care planning and palliative care.
