Job Description:

The Debates Committee is seeking a group of dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to join their team.

As a member of the Debates Committee, you will be responsible for reviewing regulations and taking ownership of organizing the debating program through various portfolios. You will work closely with the Director of Debates and have the opportunity to make a real impact on USU Policy and services.

This role requires a commitment of approximately 12 months, beginning in November 2025. We strongly recommend that committee members avoid planning holidays during this period to ensure seamless delivery of tasks.

Indigenous applicants are highly encouraged to apply for this role as well as other USU positions. The application process is open to all currently enrolled students with an active USU Membership.

Applicants must be available for an interview of approximately 15 minutes on designated dates. Shortlisted candidates will receive notification of the selection panel's decision as soon as possible after the ratification meeting.

Successful applicants will be required to participate in the compulsory USU induction and attend development and coordination sessions from November 2025 onwards. Ongoing mentoring and training will also be provided throughout the year.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Current University of Sydney Student
  • Active USU Membership or willingness to obtain
  • Able to commit to regular meetings and events
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
